FAQ
How can I prepare for my stay abroad? Where do I have to enrol?
First of all, the coordinator of your home university must announce that you would like to study in Jena (nomination). Then you will receive a reply from our Admissions Office from the central International Office. This reply will contain all the necessary information, e.g. where you can find the application forms. Complete all the necessary forms and return them by 15 July for the winter semester or for the whole academic year and by 15 January for the summer semester.
How strong do my language skills need to be?
In general, we recommend that you have sufficient German language skills before starting your studies at FSU. A language course is offered before the introductory weeks.
We advise our exchange students to have a good knowledge of German (e.g. B2 or higher according to the Common European Framework of Reference for LanguagesExternal link) in order to be able to follow the courses and take examinations. All our courses in the Bacherro programme are taught in German. The same applies to courses in the Master's programme. The only exception are Master's courses in Economics (VWL), which are taught in English.
Do I have to pay tuition fees at FSU Jena?
There are no tuition fees. However, you will have to pay the semester fee de each semester.
Will I receive personal support at the FSU?
This is the purpose of the induction week. This usually takes place two weeks before the start of the lecture period. You will get to know Jena and the university a little better and also gain a lot of information about what it is like to live in Jena (e.g. trips to Weimar, excursions to Erfurt, language courses etc.). In addition, each exchange student will be assigned a personal mentor (a student) who will help you through the "Jungle" and liaise with you in advance. This mentor will be there for you throughout your stay. In addition to this opportunity, we, the subject coordinators, offer you support, especially when it comes to questions about the study programme.
