  • What is the certificate program "Sustainable Business & Economics" about?
    • With growing environmental and social challenges on a global scale, such as the climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity, sustainability is becoming increasingly important.

    • In this context, the certificate program "Sustainable Business & Economics" is an innovative tool that addresses the pressing and highly relevant challenges of our time and offers students the opportunity to focus more on business-related content with a focus on sustainability.

    • Students will receive an additional certificate through a targeted selection of courses in the area of sustainability. This stand-alone certificate, which is independent of the regular degree certificate, certifies an attractive additional qualification. This additional qualification represents a competitive advantage on the job market for graduates of FSU Jena and can be acquired across all degree programs.
  • Accomplishments and levels
    • Certificates can be acquired at three levels:
"Basic": At least 20 ECTS from relevant modules.
"Advanced": At least 32 ECTS from relevant modules.
"Expert": At least 44 ECTS from relevant modules (including the writing of a final thesis
         on a sustainability-related topic).

    • Proof of a module as part of the certificate program "Sustainable Business & Economics" requires a passed examination (grade 4.0 or better).

    • Confirmation and classification of the certificate level achieved are carried out at the student's request. The certificate committee determines the procedure for verification. It is possible to upgrade an already acquired certificate to a higher level at any time.

    • A certificate signed by the dean as well as a separate transcript of records with the modules attended will be issued and, if possible, handed out with the final degree certificate.

    • Selected seminars within the certificate program "Sustainable Business & Economics" can be recognized as core or elective modules depending on their content (see further information). The determination of creditability is based on the respective seminar focus and is determined by the certificate commission.

    • If modules not listed are to be recognized as part of the certificate program "Sustainable Business & Economics", students must submit a reasoned application to the certificate committee. Recognition will be granted by the certificate committee.

    • At the "Expert" certificate level, one core module can be replaced by two additional elective modules. To achieve the "Expert" certificate level, the final thesis must also be written on a topic related to sustainability. The report on the thesis should contain appropriate assessments.
